Journery of a school dropout to become steel fixer
Now the excitement increased as Pawan and his team, not only enjoyed working, but were commended by the Company Vice President Mr. Ramana Reddy, on doing the job in less time and with far less rejects and mistakes. Vice President also appreciated the work they have done for constructing a bridge. The average wastage reported used to be 2% before the PTVL team of Bholu and his friends were trained and employed. Now the wastage is less than 1 % per worker per day for the PTVPL team. Also Pawan and his team were delivering at least 150 to 200 kg of steel fixing work and 4 to 5 sq m of shuttering work per day, which was much higher than productivity of the regular workforce that had been hired by private labour contractors. And to top it all after all this interesting work, Pawan was now earning five times the remuneration and that too on a daily basis in an environment where his skill and hard work was appreciated bringing with it scope for further growth.
At the end of the first month Pawan received his pay check of Rs. 5000. He had also opened a bank account at State Bank of Hyderabad near the construction site.
Pawan thought his life was made and thanked God for making him take the plunge two months back when Mr. Leenesh had visited his village. Pawan is now looking forward to working with the Company for few years, learn additional skills and become a supervisor. He is confident that he has a good career now.
Pawan’s story as a part of Pipal Tree’s efforts is still just at the beginning of the Mayflower journey. There are many more successes in the pipeline to elevate hundreds and later hundreds of thousands of unemployed rural youth from being a burden on the nation into being a national asset.
Pipal Tree Ventures runs its training centres at Maal Village, Hyderabad and Langanj, Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. It is also in the process of setting up more training centres in other states across India. Pipal Tree Ventures has already trained more than 100 poor students from various villages and provided them jobs with various reputed construction companies in India. Large number of construction companies are showing willing ness to work with Pipal Tree to hire these poor youths from rural villages who will help them achieve higher productivity standards. This case is a real show case on how India Inc can meet its social obligation without compromising on its performance and obligations to shareholders. PREVIOUS.    GO TO FIRST PAGE
