No longer was he depressed in self-pity with a feeling of hopelessness, but he was radiant, and looked forward to learning new aspects of operations every day.
He had started with the skill of Steel Fixing / Bar bending, identifying the steel as per diameter, reading simple drawings and bending the steel of various shapes as per drawings. Now he was no longer just a pair of hands, working with his physical strength, but was applying his intelligence. All that he had learnt at the school, found new expression. Life looked different, and every morning brought new adventures and thrill for Pawan and his friends. Gradually they all started using machines. Something, they had never imaged that they would ever do. Pawan used cutting machines to cut steel bars. The eight to ten hours he spent every day brought new cheer in his life and that of his friends from his village. As a group they began to discuss how they would do more and more interesting things. Wearing the helmet, safety shoes and work-jackets every morning gave all of them a new feeling of self respect and pride.
And to top it all, not one single student wanted to go back to the life in the village, although they sorely missed their families back home. To the surprise of Pawan and his friends, one day there came foreign trainers who visited Pawan and his friends, spoke with them through an interpreter and trained for more than a week. These foreigner trainers came from Germany and showed them more tricks of doing things more easily and in an even more interesting manner.
Now with the end of four weeks of this rigorous training, Pawan and his friends had also put up a good improvement in their physique with the wholesome food that they used to make from groceries provided free by Pipal Tree Ventures. At the end of the training, all of them were pleasantly surprised when they were told that they could now have a short holiday to visit their villages. All of them looked forward to meeting their parents and friends in the village and tell them how life was different for them now.
With delighted faces Pawan and his friends went to their village and excitedly told all their neighbours about the new things they had learnt to do. And now they were more excited than ever about joining the KMC Construction company as its regular employees, where they would be provided family accommodation and food in the canteen while at work, plus an opportunity to get further training through PTVPL and move on in their secure careers.
When Pawan and his friends joined KMC Constructions, they hardly realized that they had started working as all those activities that they did when they underwent training is what they had to do while working as regular employees. They started working on a big road project to construct six lane highway from Kurnool to Bangalore. Now they drew a monthly remuneration of Rs. 5000 from which every month Rs. 1500 was deducted as loan repayment instalment to be repaid to the Micro finance institution
